Mr. Gakunju has experience in the healthcare sector, having worked at AAR for 22 years (11 of them as CEO of the group). He studied for a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from Minnesota University from 2000 to 2003. He is a keen Environmentalist, he serves as the Chairman and Founder Member of Uvumbuzi Club. He was honored with a UN Recognition Award on Solid Waste Management through his association with the club.
Mr. Ngumi, is one of Kenya's most accomplished investment bankers and has helped many multinational and local firms to raise equity and debt. Mr. Ngumi handled some of the largest financing deals in the region and was among the team that helped arrange Kenya's maiden sovereign bond in 2014. He holds Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honours in Philosophy, Politics and Economics) from St. Peter's College, University of Oxford, UK.
Les Baillie is Executive Director of the M-PESA Foundation. He was previously an external trustee of the Safaricom Foundation, having retired from the position of Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation, a position he took up in August 2003 when the Foundation was formed.
He came to Kenya in 2000 when he was appointed by Vodafone as CFO for Safaricom Limited.
Rens Alban joined the CarePay Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2016. An avid investor in the ICT sector, he brings a wealth of experience in running start-ups and mature companies in this sector. Rens founded Virtual Affairs in 1997. Virtual Affairs has extensive experience in the Insurance and Banking Sector and employs over 150 specialists and currently has offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Sofia, Bulgaria.
Sanda Ojiambo is the Head of Corporate Responsibility at Safaricom, where she manages the Social Innovation, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Social Policy and the Corporate Social Investment portfolios. Sanda has also worked at CARE International, UNDP Somalia and Planned Parenthood Federation of America - International. Sanda has a Master's degree in Public Policy and Development Economics.
Kees has over 13 years’ experience in general management, marketing and business development, having worked in Africa and Europe in the FMCG and Technology sectors. Before becoming CEO, Kees was the Chief Executive Officer at Carepay Kenya. Prior to joining CarePay in March 2016, Kees was the mHealth (mobile health) Director of PharmAcess Foundation.
Maarten has over 12 Years' experience in business development and various commercial roles having worked in the Financial sector in Africa, Caribbean and Europe. Maarten is a former Director at Rabobank Kenya and was from the start involved in setting up the Kenyan office of the bank and developing its strategy and business development in East and Southern Africa. Maarten previously worked as the Commercial Director at CarePay Kenya.
Moses has over 10 years' financial experience gained while providing accounting and auditing services to financial service institutions. Moses previously worked as the Finance Director at CarePay. Prior to joining CarePay, Moses worked with Deloitte & Touche East Africa where he left as a manager in the Audit department having held various positions with Deloitte over the last 8 years. Moses has also worked for General Motors East Africa.
Priya has over 15 years' experience in Healthcare Management and Health insurance having been involved in Operations restructuring projects. Priya set up of the Pharmacy Procurement system as well as designed and implemented the Drug Formulary for AAR Healthcare within East Africa. Priya has vast experience in the design and implementation of Electronic Medical records management systems and Electronic billing systems.
Steve has over 15 years' global experience in leading technical projects focused on increasing profitability. Steve, a Project Management Professional (PMP), holds an MBA from University of Dallas, a Business Intelligence Certificate from Cox School of Business, Southern Methodist University and a Foundation certificate in IT Service Management, IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). His professional career spans from smaller start-ups to large, Fortune 500 multinational organizations.
Dr. Mwirigi has over 10 years’ experience gained from previous roles in health insurance, health technology and health not-for-profit organizations. The immense experience he has attained has broadened his understanding on the importance of improving quality of healthcare and the need to work with strategic partners to achieve this. Dr. Mwirigi is passionate about innovation and how it is driving the quality of healthcare in Africa and across the world. Prior to being appointed to the Commercial Director role, Dr Mwirigi was Project Director & Agile Coach at CarePay.

Lina Dyhr is a Media, Marketing Communications and Business Strategy professional with about 15 years experience. She has worked for the biggest ethical brand in the world, Fairtrade, in charge of communications for 33 countries in Africa and 3 in the Middle East. Recently Lina has been in charge of Consumer Marketing and Branding, running large Above the Line and Below the Line Campaigns instrumental in raising MTIBA clients from 100,000 into the 1 million mark in less than 2 years.
